ABOUT
Hello,
I have aspired to be a news paper comic strip cartoonist since I was a small child.
Here is some background about myself,
I was born in New Orleans, LA, and spent seven years of my childhood there from the age of nine until I turned sixteen. My father, (James D. Stafford) has been a jazz musician for well over forty years, and we lived in the heart of the French Quarter
I attended grade school at a creative arts charter school (Mc Donogh # 15) where I produced many of my own comic books that were printed up on an old mimeograph machine and distributed to class rooms. Scooby-Doo was the first cartoon I ever learned to draw, and it seems I have retained my affection for cartoon dogs. It was in New Orleans that I often watched the artists on Jackson Square produce their work, and was inspired by it.
I attended college in Nelsonville, OH where I studied natural resources and law enforcement. I received my degree in 2007. My goal at the time was to become a park ranger at a state or national park out west. I may even do that someday…who knows. While attending school there, I worked on the college news paper (Hocking Valley Voice) as a cartoonist.
.
I have participated in art shows locally in Westfield at Cool Creek Park, and in Sheridan at the public library.
Well, now you probably know more about me than you ever wanted to know so I will get back to my drawing board.

Otis
is the real –life pet of Scott Childers, owner of Hamilton County Collision
and Towing. Scott’s shop is located at 507 S. Main St. in Sheridan, IN.
Otis is a two year old pure breed Boxer who was born Christmas day in
2011, and has been a jolly addition to Scott’s family and crew ever since.
Otis’ predecessor was an albino Boxer whose name was Tyson, who is remembered
and missed. Tyson, like Otis was a lovable character who had a great
personality.
Scott and the guys at his shop tell me that Otis often
accompanies them on tow runs….and can become a bit sulky if for some reason
must be left behind….he has even been known to take out frustration about that
sort of thing on hapless stuffed plush toys, dogs will be dogs. Otis just
thinks of himself as one of the fellas’.
One of Otis’ favorite treats is
biscuits and gravy, which he enjoys for breakfast about three days a week or
so. Otis also loves to chew on boots, and can often be found with a cachet of
work gloves, which he likes to collect.
Otis, being true to the name of
his breed, also likes to swat and bat at things with his white gloved paws;
‘Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee.’ But all joking aside….Otis is as
gentile as any dog I’ve met.
Many people in the community have taken a
shine to Otis, and look forward to being greeted by him when they walk on
Main Street.
I really appreciate Scott and Otis giving me the OK to draw
this comic strip about them and their establishment. It really is turning out
to be great fun.
